Life on Earth

Primitive earth was with very little or no oxygen. It has many energy sources in the form of Solar radiation, Electric discharge, Volcanic eruptions, Cosmic rays, Environmental heat, and Radioactive decays. Organic material was required to produce life on Earth, which was not available in any form. It was only inorganic material that was available in abundance. As per an estimate, it took almost one billion years from the formation of the earth, where inorganic material on the earth interacts for the emergence of life. Why life took such a long time to emerge was, because chemical reaction occurred without the help of enzymes, which is the most important part of every form of life. There was a long and complex process when the first cellular form appeared on earth about 200 crore years ago.

All living creatures are designed by a specific combination of genes. Species evolve for survival, only with stable genetic profiles that optimally fit the environment. LIFE is defined as “the ability of an organism to reproduce, grow, produce energy for utilization through chemical reactions by utilizing the outside materials”. There’s an innate tendency in each organism to acquire greater complexity and perfection to perform functions. In the process of achieving perfection, an organism is better adapted to the changing environment. As a result, the organism has to put in special efforts to fulfill its new needs for adaptation.

All living creatures are designed by a specific combination of genes. Genes that produce faulty design features, such as soft bones or weak hearts, are largely eliminated from the population. The genes that survived the environmental and other challenges, only, passed on to the succeeding generations. Species that evolve with stable genetic profiles survived, whereas weaker species became extinct with time.
Life on earth did not come pre-purposed and pre-formed. The first two-legged hominids emerged about four million years ago, after a prolonged period of global cooling. A range of variations in their biogenetic design briefly flourished and then became extinct leaving Home Sapiens as the all-conquering survivors. The greatly enlarged brain of this species made survival possible in the unpredictable environment and extremely tough climatic conditions of Africa’s vast SAVANNAH PLAIN. Much of the brain’s programming was done in that time. In the process of natural selection, other circuits developed, specifically those that helped human beings to survive. It continued till the invention of agriculture about ten thousand years ago. It allowed people to understand the process of accumulation for securing the future, live in groups with greater concentrations, and be freed from hand-to-mouth subsistence. From there, a human with very little but fast steps has brought us to modern civilization.
Human beings today inhabit a thoroughly modern world of space exploration and virtual realities. But side by side, they carry the ingrained mentality of Stone Age HUNTER GATHERER. Human beings are hard-wired. “You can take the person out of stone age, but not the stone age out of the person” quoted by Nigel Nicholson in his article “How Hardwired Is Human Behaviour”. All people are alike underneath. The discipline recognizes the individual differences caused by a person’s unique genetic inheritance, personal experiences, and the culture in which he has been brought up.
Today, the world is a ruthlessly competitive jungle in which ‘Might Is Right is the only basis and principle of survival. As opposed to a place of co-operative and harmony, in which people care for help and share, the strong always wins, and the weak always lose, is now the fact of life. The developed and social world is a competitive jungle, characterized by a ruthless and amoral Darwinian Struggle For Survival, for resources and power. People who are high in the competitive jungle worldview, are very low in the sensitivity scale, comprising (Sympathy, Compassionate, and Forgiving). They don’t have empathy in chasing power and individual agendas. These people have entered into a state of NARCISSISM, characterized by the feeling of superiority towards others. The NARCISSIST perceives not only the social life but towards all species of nature and its all the resources, as a series of struggles for dominance.

This is where human activities have triggered an extinction event, often referred to as the “sixth mass extinction”, which scientists and philosophers consider a major threat to the continued existence of human civilization. They assert that roughly one million species of plants, animals, and other forms of life face extinction, because of human impacts. The said activities of expanding land use for industrial agriculture, livestock rearing along overfishing are creating havoc in the food chain of the Ecosystem.
An assessment as old as carried out in 1997, states that over a third of earth’s land has been modified by humans which has increased the atmospheric carbon dioxide level by 30%. That humans are the dominant source of nitrogen fixation, affecting the atmosphere. That humans control most of the Earth’s accessible freshwater, and that the species extinction is over a hundred times faster than natural. All of us are living in a mirage of development, where all the life forms including human beings are in the clear danger zone of extinction on this earth.
