The Reality Paradox: Human Consciousness in an AI-Driven World

While taking oath for presidency on 20th January 2025, US President Donald Trump said that the Stargate Project will be launched with an investment of 500 billion dollars over the next four years, building Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure aimed at supporting the reindustrialization of the US. Just after, in a span of two days, a small startup company in China floated another version of AI “DeepSeek.” The features of this version, as reported, were much more user-friendly and completely free of cost. In a single day, tech companies across the world lost somewhere around five trillion dollars in the stock market. After DeepSeek V3, Chinese tech giant Alibaba on 28th of January released a new version of its Qwen 2.5 AI model, which has surpassed the performance of the DeepSeek V3 model on key benchmarks.

A new era of reality is being created and developed in such a way that the present way of living is going to be outdated, rather obsolete in coming years. Huge amounts of technology investment are being made to create a regulated or controlled reality. We have ushered in an era where dependence on technology in life is increasing with the passing of each day. We have also seen that in recent times, humans are being replaced by robots in almost all fields of life. What will be left for humans will be a big question in coming years. In that situation, the present reality is going to be replaced by something unknown, unseen, and unidentified. Then what will this next Reality be like?

Nobody knows the next reality. The four big questions of life are: First is, “Where did we come from?” – Origin. Second is “How should we live?” – Ethics. Third is “What is the purpose of life?” – Meaning. And the fourth is “Where is mankind heading?” – Destiny. But today all these four pillars of humanity have lost their relevance. The fast pace of technology has completely changed the definition of life, reality, and its worldview. There are no takers of these values and this particular reality of life. Our future is a race between the growing power of technology and the wisdom with which we use it, because “All civilizations become extinct before becoming technologically mature.” We cannot imagine where we are heading.

Then what, in fact, is reality? We humans experience it all the time but always struggle to define it. It seems so real, yet when we examine it closely, it vanishes like a mirage. We don’t know when it began, where it came from, where it is going, how long it will remain, and finally, we don’t know whether it exists or not. The reality we experience is instantaneous perception through sense group organs, usually eyes, mediated by the brain which controls bodily functions, recognized and perceived by the mind which is responsible for thoughts, feelings, and consciousness. Or we can say, information is interpreted in specialized structures of the brain as a “Reality vital to life.” The reality is “Nothing is what it seems and nothing seems like what it is.”

In the latest theory, the emergence of reality is described through its perception and observation. Sight and colors are the byproducts of neural interpretation. Touch, sound, smell, taste, and proprioception have no physical identity but are the product of an apparent world that is vital to life, created by the brain to enable it to interact appropriately with the environment. The world is not governed by physical laws but by subjective experiences because the physical world that we perceive is not something that’s separate from us but rather created only by our own minds. Reality tunnel is the theory which states that, with a subconscious set of mental filters formed from beliefs and experiences, every individual interprets the same world differently, or we can say “Reality/Truth lies in the eyes of the beholder.” But today, Reality/Truth is created in minds with the help of technology.
