China
China is the number-one producer of strawberries in the world, averaging around 3.4 metric tonnes each year. Shandong is responsible for the most production due to the mild climate and irrigation networks that work so well in the province. In China, strawberries are produced year round and they are quite popular food items for smoothies, cakes, and fresh fruit salads.
United States
The United States grows a lot of strawberries, more than most other countries. Most of these strawberries, about 90%, come from California. The mild winters in California, with not too much sun, are perfect for growing strawberries all year. Excellent strawberries from places like Watsonville and Salinas are eaten here in the US and also sent to other countries.
Turkey
Turkey has good weather and new ways of farming that let them grow strawberries almost all year. The area of Bursa is especially known for really good strawberries, which are sent to many parts of Europe.
Egypt
Egypt is known for growing juicy strawberries, especially in areas like Ismailia and Beheria. Egypt also sells a lot of frozen strawberries to other countries. In 2023, about 26% of all frozen strawberries sold worldwide came from Egypt.
Mexico
Mexico grows a lot of strawberries, mainly in Baja California and Michoacán. The weather and rich soil help them grow sweet strawberries. Most of these are sent to the US and are very important for getting strawberries there at certain times of the year.
Other major strawberry-producing countries include Russia, Germany, South Korea, Japan, and Spain. These nations have favourable climates and established agricultural sectors for strawberry farming. Although China grows the most strawberries, countries like Egypt and Mexico play major roles in exporting the fruit globally.
