Influencer who ate raw vegan food for 4 years dead. Here’s how raw food affects your body

By Daphne Clarance: Vegan influencer Zhanna Samsonova, who followed a diet consisting entirely of raw food for years, has died.

As per reports, Zhanna had been following a completely raw vegan diet for at least four years and lived on eating only “fruits, sunflower seed sprouts, fruit smoothies and juices.”

Zhanna reportedly died of starvation at 39. Her mother attributed Samsonova’s death to a “cholera-like infection.”

According to Ayurveda, raw food might not be the best thing for the body. Although there are some foods like fruits, nuts and salads that can be consumed raw, other food items should be cooked to increase the flow of blood to your gut and improve the digestive process.

Besides this, cooked food breaks down easily in the stomach and the nutrients are absorbed by the body properly.

The raw vegan diet, a fusion of veganism and raw foodism, has been gaining popularity for its potential health benefits. This diet primarily includes uncooked or minimally heated plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouted grains, and legumes.

The preparation methods often involve soaking, sprouting, blending, or dehydrating to retain the nutritional value of the ingredients.

Adherents of this diet believe that raw foods are more nutritious than cooked ones, and can aid in weight loss, improve heart health, and reduce the risk of diabetes.

Studies have shown that raw vegan diets can lead to lower body fat percentages and improved blood cholesterol levels.

However, it’s crucial to note that a poorly planned raw vegan diet can lead to deficiencies in essential nutrients like vitamins B12 and D, selenium, zinc, iron, and certain omega-3 fatty acids.

Research does suggest that some raw foods may be healthier than cooked foods like brussels sprouts and red cabbage, which might lose about 22 per cent of their thiamine content, which keeps the nervous system healthy.

Cooked vegetables, however, can supply the body with more antioxidants.

Careful planning and possibly supplementation are necessary to ensure a balanced intake of all necessary nutrients. Despite its potential health benefits, individuals considering a raw vegan diet should consult with a healthcare professional or a dietitian to avoid potential health risks.
