Today, so many things are happening around us or we are always in the middle of so many thoughts and important things, that it becomes difficult to choose, which is more important and which is not. We are always at the loggerheads with uncertainties and ambiguities and trying to make the right decision in a series of dynamic situations. Our minds are working for twenty-four hours. We can’t be away from the responsibilities of the designated assignments or the scheduled commitments even for a second. Our minds are busy processing a hundred times more information than they used to process in the last decade or so. So, we are living in an ultra over-informed world, where information is power and also critical for our survival.
Almost a quarter of the world’s population is now on Facebook. There are many more social platforms that are used by people for social networking. While social media activism brings an increased awareness about societal issues, questions remain as to whether this awareness is translating into real change in us. Although social sharing encouraged people to express their concern on social issues, their support is limited to pressing the “LIKE” or “NOT LIKE” button only. People are given a precisely defined and confined option only, which absolves them from real participation, the responsibility, and ownership of the act. This takes the human reactions into passivity and insensitivity, making him a dumb and inactive being who bears an identity through a digital number only.
The worst part of unregulated and uncontrolled social media is, that now we are systematically turning the societies and dividing humanity into several ungovernable groups of people. Generally, the images we are viewing on social media are manipulated, because when a filter is applied to the digital media, it becomes difficult to identify what is real and what’s not. We know it, but still, we can’t keep our minds from getting affected by all this happening so frequently in our surroundings. Moreover, on these platforms, people share only the highlights of their lives, rarely low points are shared. This thing takes us away from the realities of life.

Through a very strong marketing mechanism, artificial or virtual reality of life is developed and presented before us, which doesn’t exist. We become a part of this cobweb and don’t get time to look for the reality out of Fear of missing out (FOMO), which has been around us for longer than social media. FOMO impact self-esteem triggers anxiety and fuel even greater social media use. It also increases the feeling of loneliness, leading to a fragmented family and society. We have seen this live and fast change, happening in our society in the last few years
There were times, when there was privacy, love, and friendship and when the members of a family stood by one another without needing to know the reason. Today, there’s fear, hatred, and pain but no dignity of emotions, no deep or complex sorrows. We have seen people making a video of accidents, fresh murder scenes, and other anti-social events, without helping them. In that situation, we don’t feel the pain of the sufferer. It’s mere news or information. Today, life has got confined to a flow of information only. We have been developing into an information-hungry society where there is no space and scope for rationality, wisdom, and humanity because the information we consume, and the thoughts we create are food for the mind.
We are too engrossed in fighting our fear of the future and insecurities of consequences, that our minds are not our minds. Human is now used to working only to fill in the blanks because our minds are controlled almost absolutely by systems designed by the people who control the whole system. In the last few decades. Because of the ultra inflow of information, our dependence on tablets, computers, and mobiles has increased to the extent that our minds have been heading to hibernation. We have become so dependent on information-providing tools and systems, that we have almost forgotten to apply our minds in any situation. The quality and quantity of thoughts which are the byproduct of the information, determine our state of mind.

Today like our earth, the health of the human mind is also not good. We didn’t value it, like air and water, since it is also available free. We allow it to go corrupt and almost non-functional because we stopped talking to our conscience. The true nature of the mind is to learn, reflect, understand, discover and invent. The faculty of mind is a universal faculty. The mind is the most intriguing faculty of the universe. It is the mind only that cultivates a will to understand whatever is out there in our surroundings. The mind is shaped by all the experiences, ideas, and thoughts to which it is exposed. We can choose what we feed to our mind, just as we can choose what we feed our body. The mind always attempts to work on new possibilities, challenges, and horizons.
The mind is not an organ, rather human mind is a phenomenon in itself. We can say, it is the most unique among all the universal phenomenons. It’s the mind only that tries to gaze across the whole universe. It’s the mind only that unceasingly strives to know, understand, discover, and invent the layers of surroundings, scale the universe and calculate the dimensions of the cosmos. It has been said that the mind is the most fascinating faculty of the universe. The complex structure of the universe, with its matrix, infinite boundaries, ever-changing designs, unlimited possibilities, unfathomable history, and its amazing ever-going evolution is beyond all the imaginations of a super artist. The mind is the most fascinating phenomenon of its creative art. This world of ours is also a product of the mind. “World does not exist without mind”. It’s always our choice what kind of a world we want for ourselves.
