Yet do all this learning equate to our true wisdom? And if not, then what is it that matters? We generally mistake knowledge for wisdom, because they are very closely related, but they are quite different also. Knowledge is the accumulation of facts and information, whereas Wisdom is the synthesis of knowledge and experience into insights. It deepens one’s understanding of the real meaning of life. Knowledge gives us the ability to survive and thrive in the world, but capable is he, who is wise.

If knowledge is information, wisdom is the understanding and application of that knowledge and insight is the awareness of the underlying of a truth. We can gain a lifetime of knowledge, yet never see the wisdom in it. We can be wise, but still, miss the deeper meaning in life. Knowledge is knowing which products, practices, people, and pleasures make you happy. Wisdom is knowing that while those things please you, but real happiness can never be derived from them. Because happiness comes only from within and not from pleasures derived from these things.

Further knowing the very purpose in life and not seeking pleasure, is INSIGHT. Pleasure and even happiness are merely one of the many fleeting states of mind in the spectrum of full emotions. Those emotions don’t make our lives, rather they are merely experiences. Knowledge is easy. Wisdom takes effort, trials, errors, pain, the sacrifice of sweat, blood, and tears. It’s a lifelong process. Failure is unavoidable in this process.

It is the admission fee to enduring wisdom and the way to finding success. Knowledge without wisdom is like a computer without software. Wisdom is an enduring level of insight about when to use that knowledge. It’s about pacing yourself until the right and optimal time to use that knowledge, or about when to hold back and refrain from using it. Wisdom is the quality of a person to think, act or discern what is best, right, and longer-lasting. It is the perfect use and application of common sense, knowledge, and experience at the right time, right place, in the right situation, and the right manner.

It develops the ability to judge and make beneficial and productive decisions in life. While acquiring and applying information is valuable in and of itself, we also need to distill and judge that information to find the deeper meaning and relevance of that. Knowledge and understanding are the very basis of wisdom, but experience is the key to attaining wisdom.

The truer form of knowledge is in acquiring all the three because each enhances the quality of life. Knowledge without wisdom is possible, but wisdom without knowledge is impossible. While knowledge is limited, wisdom has no boundaries. Knowledge can be positive or negative, wisdom has only positive results because it is the implementation of knowledge with an active and benevolent attitude.

To run a family, an organization, or a company, the leader must understand the difference between knowledge and wisdom. This is not easy, because, majorly the world today seems to idolize knowledge only. That’s why all of us are in a constant state of mental stress. We are grossly involved in spending too much time acquiring pieces of information, and not give enough time thinking about what to do with it.

Today everyone is constantly consuming maximum time in collecting industry information and voraciously reading books about the latest trends. This is how they become enamored with and distracted by what is new and exciting. In this process, they lose their individuality, originality, identity, and finally the entity. They fall with the addiction of simply following only borrowed ideas, thoughts, values, beliefs, and related choices.

Which is better, being knowledgeable or being wise? The opinion that knowledge is important in our society is evident in the importance that is placed on education. Yet do all this learning equate to true wisdom? And if not, how does it matter in our lives? It certainly matters if we give due importance to understanding the difference between knowledge and wisdom, which is the best and first step towards living a better life.
