Greenstories-1

How many times in our life, we ask a question to ourselves, “who we are, what we are for, why we are”. Deep inside, every one of us, we explore the very purpose of this life at some point of time or the other. But a lot of change has happened in the last few decades. Life has traversed a full cycle of, a fast flow of information, easy availability of knowledge, and rapid development of technology. The relevance of values, we have about a few decades back, have lost their values.

We have entirely changed in our perceptions, our outlook, our attitude, our life values, and in our priorities of life. Self-exploration has taken a backdrop. Achievements, goals, and targets have become prime objectives in our lives. Professional skills, technical skills, capacity buildings, and capability upscaling like terms are more common and paramount in today’s world. Unhealthy and undesirable competitions have become an integral part of daily routine.

But still, this question comes to our minds, why we got this life by God, and how we become most truly alive. Then the question arises, which is more prime, PURPOSE OR CAPABILITY. Should we fathom deep to explore ourselves or dump it under the huge garbage of this materialistic world, where the addictions of ACHIEVEMENT (winning at any cost), SUCCESS (even at the cost of compromise with values), ACCUMULATION ( at the cost of someone’s sufferings), RECOGNITION (at the cost of someone’s existence), and so many other terms which are directly connected with present prevailing values? In present times, the thrust is on capability and capacity enhancements. It’s not on identifying the very purpose of life, which is criticality more important for the existence of this society and the human as an individual in himself.

People with a strong sense of purpose are better able to handle the ups and downs of life, in comparison to the more resourceful and capable persons. With purpose comes values. Values are the rules that guide our decisions in life. It brings in a deepening of trust and faith in other people. This is what we are severely missing today. Purpose infuses an element of grace in life. Purpose brings in commitment. As is rightly said by Johan Wolfgang, “Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, and always an ineffectiveness in decisions”.

With purpose, people find flow in life. They allow things to happen and change in life, rather than fighting against it. Even the dullest thing becomes beautiful and creative when we are motivated by some purpose in life. Purpose offers a psychological buffer against obstacles. A person with a strong sense of purpose remains satisfied with life even while experiencing a difficult time.

Undoubtedly, Capabilities are an alternative combination of functioning that is feasible for a person to achieve. It denotes a person’s opportunity and ability to generate valuable outcomes.

Recently there has been a complete focus on, more on the capability of generating financial values. The irony is this perception has not only taken control of the individuals but of the whole society and even the nations. This is visible when the prosperity of a country is scaled by GDP levels and financial indexes. The question is not on creating and generating financial wealth, question is on doing it in the absence of the real purpose of people’s welfare.

We in the family or the society, not only propagating it, rather promoting it exclusively at all levels. But are we happy, are we satisfied, are we contributing to creating and developing harmony among us which are the basic objectives of this life. What is happening around us is the reflection of what we have chosen. Enhancement of capacities and capabilities carry no value in the absence of some purpose in life.

Living on purpose feels alive, clear, and authentic. You will experience a flow, which is a state of absorption, in which time seems to disappear and you feel content and fulfilled. It not only helps in staying focused rather makes you feel passionate about your goal. It gives clarity in life. A person who knows his purpose, make a greater contribution and deep impact through his work in life. Living with purpose makes you more resilient. People with purpose are being able to “Cognitively reappraise the situation and regulate emotions turning life’s proverbial lemons to lemonade.” Said Andrew Zolli.

Finally, while upscaling capacities and capabilities among the people, we work only on the multiple traits of a person, like, leadership qualities, inborn talent, organizational capabilities, accountability, collaborative attitude, learning skills, analytical mind, innovative thinking, efficiency, and whatnot. If we add on the VERY PURPOSE in all these, it will infuse in life into the life of everyone and bring in a complete change in society and humanity.
