Pure water when frozen will form beautiful ice crystals exactly like snowflakes under a microscope. Water that is not pure, will also freeze, but without forming crystals. Japanese scientist Emoto made an experiment on the power of the words which we use. He poured pure water into vials labeled with negative phrases like “I hate you” or “You are bad”. After twenty-four hours, the water was frozen but no longer crystallized. In contrast, he placed lightly polluted water on vials with the label “I love you” or “You are very good”. Astonishingly, after 24 hours, the water produced gleaming perfectly hexagonal crystals. “Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. Words have energy and the power with the ability to help, to heal, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate, and to humble”.

The words shape our entire existence. Language is one of the keys to shifting our minds, shifting our bodies, and shifting our results. Language shapes our behavior and each word we use is imbued with multitudes of personal meanings. The right words spoken in the right way can bring us love, prosperity, and respect. While the wrong words or even the right words spoken in the wrong way can lead to confusion, conflicts, and even countries to war. We must carefully orchestrate our speech if we want to achieve our goals and dream to fruition. If the internal self-talk is negative, chances are that our external experience will be negative as well. Words can change our brains and behavior.

When we talk about the English language, it contains some five lakhs words. The average person’s working vocabulary consists of only 2000 mean 0.5% of the entire language. Only 200-300 words make up our habitual vocabulary. In history, only John Milton’s writing used about 17000 words, and William Shakespeare used 24000 words. Of these five lakh words, 3000 are used to describe emotions, two third of which are used to describe negative emotions. Just by changing the words we habitually use to describe our emotions, we can change the feel and the quality of our lives. It can become a life-transforming experience. By becoming proactive in choosing our emotions, we can make our experiences more pleasurable.

Our brains are working at high speeds, processing information and working to become more and more efficient. In the pursuit of efficiency, we often use shortcuts. It conserves energy and keeps us developing models and stuck in patterns. The brain also likes certainty, which is one of our top human needs. Some certainty is beneficial, but too much of it prevents it from growing. To change our words and change our lives, we need to overcome both of these innate human tendencies. Words have biochemical effects on our lives. On hearing some words, we get upset, indulge in undesirable arguments, and sometimes build an emotional volcano affecting our minds and life for a long time. Similarly, we get cool down on hearing some kind and compassionate words and sentences.

It is believed that every thought and action creates infinite ripples in the universe. A single thought whether intentional or otherwise can change our perspective and life. Words have incredible healing power in our lives. When we utter words of love, compassion, comfort, and encouragement, we create a positive impact on people’s lives. Speaking well does not matter much until we think good also. Gentle and kind words often turn even the hardest soul. So, to start a change inside, we need to change the use of the words. Healing yourself is closely connected with healing others. Everybody has problems in life. It is unavoidable. Sharing our pain with someone is always healing.

The words we choose in our lives have meaning. They are remembered and make difference in life. The way we speak, the attitude we display, and the tone we use reflects what we are and impact everything around us. When we spend a few minutes with a chronic complainer, who has all sorts of negative terms, we will find our energy completely drain out. Words have immense power. Each word that we use can have a colossal impact. Words can build up or tear down. Words have the potential of accomplishing nearly anything or destroying almost everything. Their meaning crystallizes the perceptions that shape our beliefs, drive our behavior and ultimately create our world.
