Today, we have at our disposal, almost everything we can think of. The whole world has been a big market. We can buy anything available anywhere in the world, can have any facility we can dream of, and can also develop all the comforts in life we can wish for. The only thing required is a heap of currency, no matter how you have accumulated it. Each one of us from individuals to families, to institutions, to organizations, local to multinational companies, and finally to countries are in this race of increasing our net worth and GDP.

This is an era of development, where everything is scaled by the net worth you have. But, one fine morning, we get up and feel that there’s something more and deeper we could be a part of. We feel the pull towards something without pinning it down. It eludes and frustrates us, but still, we feel that something very own and satisfying is missing. We want more zest, more flavor, more fullness more satisfaction, or we want to be better than what we are today.
Consciously or subconsciously, each one of us wants to matter and make a difference at work, in someone’s life, or the world. Real happiness can’t be attained through self-gratification only. Having meaning and purpose in life has been connected to real happiness, satisfaction, physical health, and self-esteem. The higher purpose in life is what our soul has come here to achieve. This inner higher purpose dictates, how it can be presented to the world. For a higher purpose in life, one has to have both, desire and belief for a goal in life.
Life is all about independence. But, without support from others, nothing can exist on its own. Nature is a self-supporting mechanism in which its different components are programmed to extend, correct, and consolidate themselves, and also in the process help each other in their survival. For a tree and even for a stone, there’s a hidden purpose, to be a part of the holistic system to perform certain functions for the preservation of life upon earth. While each living being has a certain role and responsibility in Nature, they also contribute to the survival of others. Life on Earth can’t be sustained for long unless Nature acts as an integral and unified system in which living beings help each other in their survival.

Even amid the struggle for survival, the impulse to preserve and sustain life upon earth through collective effort is inbuilt in the living embodiments of Nature. Whoever you are, and whatever your circumstances may be, nobody can survive on his own without the help of others. Our individuality and independence are mere illusions. Each one of us is a dependent reality because we are equipped only with limited capabilities. Whatever we enjoy here is made possible by the actions and efforts of countless others. Everything that exists around us is, but the manifestation of some reality. In essence, they are themselves in this regard, sacrifice is the means to transcend our selflessness and realize our oneness with the universe. Sacrifice is the only way of life.
Sometimes, we ask ourselves, “Are we here simply to be born, get an education, land a job, find a life partner, build a home, procreate, enjoy, struggle, get old and pass away? Is not there a larger purpose of our existence”. Each living being has a specific role and importance in nature. And that role is to contribute to the survival of others. Parents spend their lifetime in the upbringing of their children. When children grow up, they perform the same role. A honeybee proactively collects honey for the community of bees and in the process helps plants, animals, and humans also. Life on Earth can’t be sustained unless every living helps each other in the process of survival. In our pursuit of more and more comfort, we forgot to pay attention to this unique aspect of Nature.
Unfortunately, today, the majority of us have lost in this accelerating and disruptive world. In the name of progress, humans have been laying waste to vast resources of the earth and have driven many life forms into extinction. In their quest for survival, security, and worldly freedom, people sacrifice their values and higher wisdom. Through mindless actions, they leave so many scars on the earth and their souls, that they descend into increasingly difficult circumstances and options. We live on a unique planet in a very inhospitable universe. Life on Earth is no less than a miracle. But we have been taking the world on a self-destructive path. Unfortunately, despite the round developments, the world has not become a better place to live in. Today, because of extreme climatic conditions, mistrust amongst societies and nations, and fear of atomic war between Russia and NATO countries, human life on Earth is in danger.

If we look into history, man lived in isolation and there was no worry for the future. As a result of no responsibilities, nor did sorrow, stress, hatred, fear, insecurities, and lust. But man was not content. He started exploring certainty and security for the future and the balance was lost. All intelligent forms of life are motivated by selfish desires and natural urges to live for themselves or their groups. They reach their culmination in humans. Fortunately, Nature has given us a choice to use our intelligence to our discretion, knowledge, and wisdom. We may come to that choice through an awakening, learning, or knowing. As wisdom grows, selfishness yields place to selflessness, and egoism to universality and non-dualistic oneness.
