But have you ever wondered about the consequences of using plastic?  The plastic lunchbox you eat in regularly is very dangerous for you. Lunch boxes and other plastic containers have a different injurious compound in them. The chemicals in the container can be the reason for obesity. Not only this, the plastic bags you use can be very harmful to the environment. Plastic is a non-biodegradable waste, i.e. it does not get decomposed by decomposers. Animals can eat the polythene bags you throw in the environment. It might get choked in the lungs or digestive system of animals like cows, dogs and harm their health. There are so many cases flooding in the news and internet related to plastics in cows’ gut and death.

Sewage drains get clogged because of plastic and are the reason for floods in many areas. Plastics pollute the river and are dangerous for aquatic animals. The burning of plastic releases harmful gases which can drastically pollute the environment.

Now, you might be aware of the problems caused by plastics. Do you still want to carry on using it just for the sake of your comfort? Will this make you a responsible citizen?? Of course not! So let us join hands in the initiative of adopt-a-place by PlasticBusters.

Who are PlasticBusters?

PlasticBusters is a global environmental organization dedicated to the reduction of plastic pollution, with thousands of volunteers in over 80 countries. They understand the disadvantages and harmful effects of plastics in our environment. Different communities and organizations are in link with them in the initiative. They perform different activities to make the world a better and healthier place to live by:

  • Promoting litter picking activities

They believe that the best way of reducing the plastic waste existing in our environment is to engage in litter picking activities, individually or in a group. They currently have a group of over 2,000 members, engaged through their social media platforms, many of which regularly participate in this type of volunteer activities.

  • Educating our communities

PlasticBusters considers that in order to tackle the challenge of reducing the amount of plastic being thrown every year into our ecosystems, we need to start working ‘at the source’. This means to proactively educate our communities to ensure plastics are Refused, Reduced, Reused, Repurposed, and Recycled!

  • Collaborating with third parties

Cleaning the environment cannot take place alone. PlasticBusters says public relation is important for the change. They collaborate with key stakeholders and maintain good public relations with private, public, and non-governmental organizations. They are also partners of the UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man Project, where their headquarters are based.

Adopt a Place

Adopt a place is a global initiative launched in December 2020. PlasticBusters began it with the purpose of the litter-free environment. This organization has a dedication to save the natural habitats around the world. By eradication of plastic, they want to make the environment pollution-free.

Change beings with yourself, but for a bigger change, you need others too. With this ideology of plastic, buster started to adopt a place. Not only their members but people around the world can adopt a place and keep it clean.

Since its launch, and in a very short time, people have adopted more than 1,300 places in 81 countries. All the people pledged to keep the adopted place clean and litter-free.

There is no restriction on which place, or how many, you can adopt. You can adopt any place, anywhere. What you need to do is, visit your adopted place frequently and keep checking that it is clean. You can use the rubbish app for tracking cleanups.
