Hey Arun, I was just watching Lilo and Stitch. I love Stitch and Angel, they are so adorable! Said Bubbles. Wow bubbles, I love them too, said Arun with a smile. Hi Arun, since Bubbles is obsessed with Stitch and Angel, I thought I could tell her a few things about koalas, which are like real-life versions of Stitch and Angel. Since they are native to Australia, I find them fascinating, said Vera.

Sure, I know a few things about koalas too, responded Arun. They are native to Australia, which means they live in Australia. Unlike humans who live for 80 years, koalas have a lifespan of around 20 years. They have a unique diet, surviving solely on eucalyptus leaves, which provide all the water they need.
That’s right, Arun! But you know, koalas are facing a tough time because of deforestation, Vera continued. Humans cut down about 50 million trees every year in Australia alone, which destroys their natural habitat. As a result, koalas are forced to spend more time on the ground, making them vulnerable to attacks.
That’s terrible! Bushfires in Australia also destroy large areas of their forest homes, which further adds to their challenges, Arun added.
You’re both correct. Another significant threat to koalas is Chlamydia, Vera explained. It’s a serious and painful disease that can even cause blindness. Unfortunately, treating Chlamydia in koalas is quite challenging, as they struggle to digest antibiotics, and some have even starved to death.

That’s really sad. Is there anything we can do to help them? asked Bubbles, concerned.
While we might not be able to do everything, we can take small steps to make a difference, Arun suggested. We can reduce our use of products made from wood, spread awareness about the challenges koalas face, and urge the government to take action to protect their habitat.
Absolutely! Every little effort counts, and together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of koalas and other endangered species, Vera added.
Let’s do our part to protect these adorable creatures, just like Stitch and Angel protect each other in the movie, said Arun, determined to help the koalas.
